It is important to remember that ewes in early lactation have a high water intake requirement, rising to eight to 10 litres a day, or higher, for ewes on a high dry matter diet.

Failing to satisfy this demand will affect performance, particularly in the present period of low rainfall with the dry matter content of grass rising. Check water troughs regularly to ensure that they are not soiled.
