Farmers were starting to gather at City Hall in Cork on Wednesday morning ahead of a 10.30am protest outside a Cabinet between An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his Government ministers.
The protest has been organised by the IFA, which is seeking a retrospective aid package for beef farmers to cover losses of an estimated €101m as a result of Brexit-related price cuts.

Speaking about the protest, IFA president Joe Healy said beef farmers were fed up of hearing empty promises from politicians on Brexit supports. He said beef farmers were already being hammered by financial losses.
The Cabinet meeting was originally arranged for Blackrock Castle but was later moved to City Hall.
Healy said: “Beef farmers need a Brexit support package and we will be sending a strong message to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his Cabinet. They can have the meeting wherever they like. We’ll be there.”
