Zurich Insurance is now looking for an agri market facing underwriter to join its business lines department.

For those of you who do not know, an underwriter is a financial expert who takes a look at your finances and assesses how much risk a lender will take on if they decide to give you a loan.

The said agri underwriter is responsible for the account management of Zurich’s farm protection business, through their direct customers and broker partners.

In support of business retention and development, the agri underwriter will develop and maintain relationships with Zurich’s farm business development managers, customers and broker partners.

They will also determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.

The chosen candidate will develop propositions and maintain the organisation’s quality standards at all times, in order to deliver profitable business results.

In this role, you will be expected to quote and set coverage for cases not automatically accepted, negotiate terms and conditions where acceptable, adhere to Central Bank compliance standards at all times and be responsible for relationship management.

The underwriter will work closely with sales and distribution and other internal operations, to ensure all aspects of business management are carried out in accordance with the Zurich way of underwriting framework.

As an agri market facing underwriter, your core responsibilities will be maximising revenues at prices acceptable to underwriters and working to develop a stronger sales culture in the organisation

About you

Speaking with Zurich’s HR department about this role, they are seeking a results-driven team player, with excellent communication and relationship building skills.

As a market facing underwriter, your skills and qualifications will include a bachelor’s degree or a relevant professional qualification, ie CIP or ACII.

To be considered for the role, you must carry a minimum of three years’ experience in commercial insurance and have an excellent knowledge of Zurich products and policies.

A solid understanding of underwriting practices, rules and performance metrics is also required.

The ideal candidate will have experience in contributing to and working as part of a successful team and have a flexible and positive attitude towards work and prioritising workload.

For this role, you must already have an advanced knowledge of the insurance industry. Someone with a specific knowledge of the agricultural sector would be an asset.
