Over 6 cent per litre of a gap opens up on milk price

A record 6c/l gap has developed between the best- and worst-paying milk processors in Ireland. The latest Irish Farmers Journal/KPMG Milk Price Review shows that Lisavaird paid the top net milk price in 2016 at 30.51c/l, some 6.15c/l more than LacPatrick’s price of 24.36c/l.
This equates to a €300/cow difference in the price paid to Lisavaird and LacPatrick suppliers.
This translates to a massive €21,000 income gap between the two co-ops based on an average 70-cow herd producing 5,000 litres per cow.
Lisavaird, the west Cork co-op supplying Carbery, had good returns from other businesses, which lifted the net milk price paid to farmers above its west Cork counterparts.
Its near neighbour Barryroe has topped the review for the last four years.
The rest of the west Cork co-ops supplying Carbery rank next, followed by Tipperary Co-op and Glanbia in sixth position.
Dairygold, Kerry and Arrabawn take up seventh, eighth and ninth positions respectively.
