Friesian bull calves dominated those available and sold from €85 to €180. Many of those at the lower end were picked up by export buyers. Friesian heifer calves were also available and sold from €180 to €250.

Prices for Hereford and Angus bull calves made from €220 to €380, while Hereford and Angus heifer calves ranged from €200 to €320.

Continental bull calf prices varied from €290 up to a top price of €475, while heifers ranged from €250 to €450. Calf numbers are further expected to increase as spring-calving dairy herds hit their peak calving season over the next month.

Trade for dry cows was steady but numbers were back on the last few months. Well-fleshed cows and heifers who showed up empty commanded good money. Prices ranged from €90 to €520 over the euro/kg.

  • Bullocks and heifers were in short supply with weather conditions meaning both farmers and grass buyers are slow to venture to the market yet.

    Less than 40 Bullocks made an appearance and these made €270 to €540 with their weight.

    Heifers

    There was only one pen of heifers on offer and they made from €300 to €600 with their weight.
