Some 1,204 farmers have yet to be paid their Agricultural Environmental Option Scheme (AEOS), according to the latest figures from the Department of Agriculture.

The farmers are waiting for the first instalment of their AEOS payment, with the balance to be paid later.

Some 7,436 farmers have received the first instalment of AOES II and AEOS III payment. That amounted to more than €23.3m.

According to Department officials, letters have issued to all AEOS II participants finishing in that scheme where, under EU requirements, a final recalculation must be made before the final payment issues.

Payments in these cases are issuing on an ongoing basis, said a Department spokesperson.
