GLAS payments have been issued to 130 farmers today, the Department of Agriculture has confirmed.

That leaves 2,970 farmers still waiting for payment, or else waiting to be told that they are not eligible for the scheme.

Last week, Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said that a “substantial number” of those not yet paid may be ineligible. The exact number of ineligible farmers has not been revealed, but it is thought to be between 1,000 and 1,500.

The Department of Agriculture has made direct contact with some 1,500 farmers and has outlined some of the reasons why payments have been delayed.

To date (Friday, 5 May), GLAS payments totalling €120,177,458 have been issued to 33,821 farmers.

Meanwhile, GLAS blocks preventing 1,000 farmers from submitting their Basic Payment (BPS) applications are being removed.
