Farmers and safety professionals from all over the country will converge on the Mullingar Park Hotel in Westmeath next week to share ideas and prevention strategies on how to reduce injury and death on farms.

To date in 2016, 14 people have lost their lives in farm accidents in Ireland.

Speakers

Speakers at the conference will include Peter Gohery, an IFA member from Co Galway, who will speak about the impact of his farm accident and how it affected his life and farming.

Attendees will also hear from chair of the Farm Safety Partnership Professor Jim Phelan about how farm safety strategies have developed over the years and what is required to make sustainable improvements.

Director of knowledge transfer at Teagasc Professor Tim Kelly will speak about building resilience and the importance of mental health.

Teagasc’s Dr John McNamara will present a paper on how to put safety theory into practice, while Height for Hire’s Frances McArdle will give a talk on new equipment for farmers for working safely at a height.

Knoweldge transfer event

The conference qualifies as a Department of Agriculture-approved knowledge transfer event for discussion group members in all farming enterprises - dairy, sheep, cattle, poultry and pigs.
