Today (Monday) is set to be a cool, bright day, but showers, some heavy and thundery, will become widespread during the afternoon. There will also be the risk of hail in Ulster and Connacht.

The first line of showers will clear the southeast early this afternoon, and some drier weather will develop before a second band of showers develops later in the afternoon in the northwest.

Temperatures will be lower than previous days at only 7C to 10C.

Monday night

Tonight will be very cold with clear spells and scattered showers which will mainly affect parts of the north and west. Some of these showers will turn to hail or sleet at times as temperatures fall to between -2C and +2C. Westerly winds will be light to moderate in strength.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be a similar day - cool, bright and with scattered heavy showers. It will, however, be slightly milder with highs of 8C to 11C or 12C. West to southwest winds will be moderate to fresh.
