Having secured first place in the intermediate class of Limousin bulls, Irish bred Wood Road James went on to secure overall Limousin male champion later in the day. Originally bred by Noel Fennessy, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick he was today exhibited by new owner Dougie McBeath. James a July 2014 born bull was purchased at the premier sale in Roscrea last October where he stood reserve junior champion and sold for €6,400. Sired is the homebred sire Wood Road Donald who himself was the top priced bull at the October 2009 premier while his dam is embryo daughter of Wilodge Vantastic Wood Road Heather.

The two year old was also part of the winning interbreed group team earlier today.

Continuing their run of form in the overall beef interbreed competition on Tuesday the Limousin breed was again out in force in the junior section. Sevengun Jellee a November 2014 heifer was the successful front runner. Bred by Mr A Booth Jellee is sired by Millgate Fame.

Standing in reserve was again a continental breed, this time in the form of a Charolais heifer. This slightly older September 2014 Tweeddale Jazzylady. Bred by exhibitors Messers Redhead & Watson it was Blelack Digger was behind this one.

Groups

The group of four competition followed the same order as the junior championship with the Limousin again triumphing with the Charolais breed in reserve. Teams for the competition consisted of a senior bull, cow with calf at foot and two maiden or in-calf heifers.

Commercial championship

Securing the overall commercial championship in front of judge Mr G Ketley from Essex was the Belgian Blue sired heifer “Coco”. Bred by MR T & A Lyons, she is sired by stock bull Bringlee Vodawagon and out of a purebred Limousin dam. No stranger to success having claimed reserve baby beef at the Welsh and Smithfield last year along with a number of overall championships this year.

The reserve championship also came in the form of a blue heifer from Messrs Lawson & Wilkonson. Having placed second to Coco from her class, Americano followed her to the end receiving reserve beef heifer championship before eventually being tapped forward as reserve overall commercial champion. Sire behind this one was stock bull Fieldon Gleo while dam was a Limousin cross. Again not Americanos first day out with a championship from Countryside show and reserve sash from the Beef Expo in Carlisle.
