Last Saturday’s sale at Scarriff Mart saw a smaller entry of stock rise to a firm trade. There was a good entry of store bullocks and heifers on offer, but very few fleshed types.
Demand was mainly driven by farmers who were active for all types of stores.
Bullocks from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €550 to €650 along with the weight for continentals, with better-quality types making over €750 along with the weight.
There were a share of plainer types which sold from €290 to €400 over the weight.
Lighter weanling bulls from 300kg to 400kg were a strong trade, especially for good-quality types.
Prices in the main ranged from €700 for plainer-quality and lighter types to €1,000 for top-quality Charoalis and Limousin bulls.
Forward-store heifers over 500kg sold mainly from €550 to €700 along with the weight, while top-quality types made up to €800 over. Store heifers from 400kg to 500kg were a steady trade again and sold from €500 to €600 over the weight.
Demand for lighter types was very strong, with many heifers from 300kg to 400kg making from €500 to €600 along with the weight.
