Prices for Friesian bull calves varied depending on age, condition and conformation. The best-selling Friesian bulls were strong sorts, aged between 10 and 12 weeks. They went for between £170 and £180.

Some strong younger Friesian bulls made over £90 with prices gradually running down to £20 to £40 for the youngest bull calves, aged two to three weeks, and the poorest sorts on offer. Some Holstein Friesian heifer calves were also on offer and went for £170 to £180.

Belgian Blue-bred calves sold well – from around £260 to £285 for six to eight-week-old heifers and bulls. Plainer or younger Blue calves went for £180 to £225.

Limousins

There was a large show of Limousin-bred calves with the best selling for £250 to £280, or more in some cases. Younger sorts, those around four weeks old, went for around £150. The best Limousin calf (pictured above) was a top bull calf that went for £345.

Angus calves that are suitable for bonus schemes run by local meat factories typically sold for around £200 with lesser sorts making around £150. The strongest Angus sorts sold for around £260.

A strong seven-week-old Montbéliarde bull calf sold for £318 and a good six-week-old Fleckvieh bull calf went for £250. A batch of four-week-old Fleckvieh bull calves were also sold for £80 to £122.
