Just shy of 120 cattle passed through the ring in Cahir on Wednesday 5 August, with prices positive despite the recent slippage in trade.

A strong mix of store, forward store and finished cattle were on offer in the bullocks and heifers, with cull cows presenting well fleshed which saw keen appetite from agents for these types.

Store heifers consisted mostly of dairy beef types weighing 400-500kg, with Angus-cross heifers averaging €3.37/kg with highs of €3.62/kg being paid. Keenest demand was seen for types weighing at the upper end of the weight bracket.

A small selection of finished heifers weighing 600kg saw prices range between €3.38kg up to €4/kg for well conformed continental types.

In the bullocks, 2025-born dairy beef bullocks saw prices average at €3.62/kg for lots weighing between 300-400kg.

More forward types 400-500kg saw prices range from €3.40/kg up to €4/kg paid for quality bullocks, with Friesian bullocks averaging €3.12/kg. Heavier bullocks in the 500-600kg and 600kg+ bracket saw many lots trading between €3.40/kg and €3.60/kg.

In the cull cows, Friesian cows weighing 500-600kg saw an average of €2.54/kg paid. Friesian cows weighing 600-700kg traded at a similar price of €2.56/kg, while lots 700kg plus were slightly sharper at €2.65/kg.
