Yearling bullocks dominated the sale, with 190 bullocks and 50 bull weanlings on offer. Outlier cattle and shapely continentals were attracting the top range of prices.

Weanling bulls
Demand was steadier in the heifer sale compared to last week but quality stock still attracted a premium as did weanling outliers. There was 199 heifers available and these were a mix of 12-month-old stock and some older heifers.
Calf prices were very up and down in recent weeks, according to Tom McCarthy, but the good calf is still dear. Of the 260 calves on offer, only 30 were Friesian bulls, which made from €110 to €178. Angus and Hereford bull calves sold for €205 to €325, with heifer calves of these breeds trading at €10 below with prices ranging from €190 up to €300 a head. Continental cross calves made up to €442.
There were 70 dry cows presented for sale and these made from €25 under to €620 over the €/kg.
