We had some lovely entries for our Father’s Day competition. Everyone wanted to win Tommy Bowe shoes from his fashionable Lloyd & Pryce footwear collection. Now ten pairs of shoes are winging their way to these lucky dads. Congratulations to you all.
Jon Callaghan (12)
Goland, Ballybofey, Co Donegal
My name is Jon Callaghan and I am 12 years old. On behalf of myself, two brothers and two sisters, I want to say our dad is the best dad ever. He works three jobs to support us – he farms, paints and sings in pubs/hotels. He’s up at 6am every morning to farm and leaves us to school before job number two. We love the cinema and dad sits through all our films and seems to enjoy them.
We know dad loves us all, he tells us every day. We five Callaghans are very lucky.
Dad has a favourite saying: “Nothing will ever be too much bother for you five and mum.”
We all love our dad, he really is the best.

My daddy is a farmer and he gets up at 6am every morning to milk the cows and doesn’t go to bed until late at night.
I love rugby and that’s another reason why my dad’s the best because he’s the one who introduced me and my sister Eimear to rugby and we ended up beating Ulster with Virginia Rugby Club, with me as scrum-half.
Dad’s a great character and always up for a laugh, but most importantly he is always there for me and my family. That’s what makes my dad the best dad ever.

Poem: My Dad is the Best
My dad is the best
Forget about the rest
He is good to me
He likes a KitKat and a cup of tea
Hour after hour he works on the farm
But it never does him a bit of harm
The Farmers Journal he likes to read
He is always doing good deeds
What makes my dad better than all the rest?
No matter what we do he is never put to the test
Niamh O’Reilly (10)
Killeshin, Co Carlow
My dad is a dairy farmer who works seven days a week on the farm and ’tis hard work but he never complains. At Christmas my family bought dad a Tommy Bowe jacket because our family loves Tommy Bowe, and my dad would love a pair of Tommy Bowe shoes.
Poem: I’m glad you’re my dad!
I’m so glad that you’re my dad
You’re one in a million, da!
When it comes to first-class fathers
You’re the cream of the crop!

Daddy passed away just over two years ago and he meant the world to me. We had a very special bond and I miss him more than words can say. Hearing about Father’s Day is very hard for me as it’s filled with such emotion and heartbreak. I feel so lost without him in my life even though I feel his presence all round me every day. So this year, since I can’t win the shoes for my daddy, I would love to win them for his grandson Desmond who is called after him, in memory of my dearest dad who I will never forget.

My dad is amazing. There are so many things he is good at I can’t write down everything. My dad can fix anything. He lets me help him with the gardening. He is the kind of dad you’d wish for. He’s smiley, funny, caring and is always there for me and my three sisters. He greets me with “darling daughter” when he collects me from school. He is a great chef and I love his soup.

We are twin boys in fifth class. We are from Brosna and go to Cordal National School. We look forward every week to discussing what’s in the Irish Farmers Journal with our teachers, especially about the weather.
What a surprise to see a competition that we might have a chance to win … better still, it’s for our dad. Our dad is the best dad in the world and he’d love to win a pair of Lloyd & Price shoes. It would be payback time for a special dad (and mom) who have spent so much on our footwear over the years.

My daddy’s name is Martin. He is a very good farmer. Daddy teaches me how to be a good farmer too. He shows me how to feed the calves with buckets of meal and to be careful. I love Fendt tractors and daddy has a Class tractor, but he doesn’t mind. Daddy brings me to football and hurling for Na Fianna. He teaches under eight hurling and brings me to matches. He plays (football) with me and my little brother in the garden and we have lots of fun. We all love Messi and Ronaldinho. Daddy lets me watch them do football tricks on his phone. I love my daddy and he loves me too.

My dad is the very best because he watches the rugby and he goes crazy when Tommy Bowe scores a try. He cares about everyone in the family. Dad is great at helping around the house. He does the ironing because he’s the best at it. He brings us down to my nan’s house in Tullamore to see the calves on the farm. My dad would love a pair of shoes because it would make him look cool.
