The Macra na Feirme Young Farmer Skillnet pilot initiative provides further training and skills development opportunities for young farmers.

Young farmer development groups applied for the pilot programme and three pilot areas from the three Macra regions were selected – Laois, Seandun in Cork and Cavan.

Training opportunities are available across three categories – business, technical and personal. Training is under way with groups initially seeking modules on, for example, boom sprayer pesticide application, young farmer schemes, business planning and machinery safety.

The Skillnet initiative will be able to support all other counties with the following types of training: young farmer schemes, planning and lobbying and land mobility.

Young farmer development groups or individuals interested in training opportunities should email skillnet@macra.ie

Funding

The Macra na Feirme Young Farmer Skillnet is funded by club members and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd. It is funded by the National Training Fund through the Department of Education and Skills.
