The market remained incredibly strong at Enniskillen last Thursday 28 August, even with seasonal supply starting to increase.
Heavy bullocks topped out at 517p/kg for a 435kg Limousin which made £2,250, while the hammer dropped at £3,100 for an 810kg Simmental at 390p/kg.
Heifers sold to 410p/kg for a 585kg Limousin totalling £2,400, while the top price per head was £2,670. Medium and lighter weights sold to 485p/kg for a 505kg Limousin, £2,450.
There was plenty of choice available in the weanling ring. Steers and bulls ranged from £1,300 to a top price of £2,180 paid for a 415kg Charolais. Heifers started at £1,200 with another Charolais at 420kg getting the top price of £1,970.
In the dropped calf ring, Aberdeen Angus calves were among the top prices, with a bull making £880, while a heifer made £700. However, perhaps the strongest demand was for sucklers, with the supply of quality outfits tight across all local marts. The top price at Enniskillen was the £4,080 paid for a Hereford cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot. This was closely followed by an Aberdeen Angus cow with a Limousin heifer calf, which made £3,890. An in-calf Charolais heifer due in September sold for £3,000.
Fat cows were also in serious demand last Thursday. A 750kg Charolais made £3,100, 400p/kg, with a 705kg Limousin at £2,450, 347p/kg and a 450kg Friesian at £1,650, 366p/kg.
