The annual show and sale of Mule, Greyface and Suffolk X Cheviot ewe lambs organised by Alexander Gourley Ltd was held at Aghanloo near Limavady on Tuesday.

The sale was topped at £355 for a pen of Mule ewe lambs exhibited by Eugene and Eoghan Lagan from Drumsurn.

Prizewinners

The top-priced pen were also the prize winners in the Mule section of the show pre-sale.

The prize-winning pen of Greyface ewe lambs came from the same flock and made £325 in the sales ring.

Raymond Canning from Drumsurn won the Suffolk Cheviot prize with a pen of ewe lambs that later sold for £240.

Overall, ewe lambs across the board were a sharp trade on the day. In general, the top pens of Mules and Greyface made north of £230, and the run of pens sold for £180 to £220.

Pens of smaller or plainer Mule and Greyface ewe lambs were mostly available for £150 to £170.

A similar pattern was seen with Suffolk X Cheviot ewe lambs as the strongest pens sold for over £220 and gradually moved closer to £150 for smaller lots.

Other Suffolk-cross ewe lambs were also on show, with the best lots making over the £200 mark and the run of pens making from £150 to £170.

Arnold Douglas from Limavady sold three Suffolk shearling rams at the end of his ewe lamb sale, with the hammer dropping at 1,120 guineas, 1,060 guineas and 1,000 guineas.
