It was a sensational day out for Limerick man Mike Hannon at Midleton Agricultural Show on Sunday, as he won the supreme beef interbreed champion, overall Belgian Blue champion and overall commercial champion with his two heifers.
Proving too good for the rest of the field was the overall Belgian Blue champion, Hannons Tequila, a September 2025-born daughter of Jefferson de Dessous La Ville. Bred from a Dafydd D’Ochain-sired cow, she went all the way to claim the supreme beef interbreed champion of the show.
Keeping her on her toes was her comrade, a Limousin-cross heifer sired by Pabo Rocknroll. Out of a purebred Belgian Blue cow, she fought off the competition in the commercial ring to win the overall title.
John Tait from Co Cork represented the Angus in fine fashion, claiming the champion Angus, before going on to stand reserve beef interbreed champion with Westellen Lady Blossom W992. Born in September 2025, she is a daughter of Blelack Dean Martin and is a maternal sister to the NCBC sire, Westellen Boss.
Sheep interbreed
Cork breeder James Walsh enjoyed a magical outing in the sheep section, picking up the champion Suffolk, champion Charollais and supreme interbreed champion of the show. Taking home the overall crown was the Suffolk champion, James’s two-year-old Ewe sired by the noted Finnvale Amigo.
While in Charollais ring, Annamacnell Beyoncé continued her unbeaten run, winning her third championship in a row at the venue.
Just over three years old, Beyoncé is sired by the 16,000gns Foxhill Va Va Voom.
Dairy champions
Over in the dairy section, Michael McGrath reigned supreme in the Friesian category with Robinview Eisaku Rosita, while Cork breeders Peter and Paula Hynes struck gold in the Jersey championship with Rathard Kiki.
