A Monaghan-bred bull shared the prestigious stock bull of the year award at the NI Hereford Breeders Association annual herds competition results night, which was held at the home of NI Hereford breed president Greer Watson, Crossgar, Co Down.
Dernaroy 1 Impact, a son of Lowesmore 1 Entertainer, was bred by well-known Hereford breeder Eric Humphreys, Dernaroy, Newbliss, Co Monaghan. He was bought by Stephen Baxter, Umgola Herefords, Tarascon House, Monaghan Road, Co Armagh, last year and shared the stock bull of the year award with Richmount 1 King Kong, a NI-bred bull owned by James Graham, Richmount Road, Portadown, Co Armagh, at the awards night. At three years old, Dernaroy 1 Impact is a polled Hereford bull out of Eric’s homebred Yalgoo Boulder cow Dernaroy 1 Emma. Her maternal pedigree goes back to the Udel herd of David and Daithi Carroll, Coole Campile, Co Wexford, and the Denn herd of Stanley Heaslip, Glebe House, Carrickaboy, Co Cavan.
A long-bodied animal, the bull was commended for his roundness of quarter, excellent top line and exceptional muscling. The judge at the competition was Andy Patterson.
