There was cause for celebration for Northern Ireland Salers breeder, Seamus Connell, at this year’s Royal Highland Show in Scotland, as he watched a young heifer he bred win the coveted Salers title.

The two-year-old heifer, Ballykeel Unique, was bred by Seamus and family, before being sold to Scottish breeder, Lewis Ralston, of the Jedforest Salers herd, who lifted the overall Salers championship with the Mathieu daughter in June.

The Connell family have been breeding Salers cattle under the Ballykeel prefix in Co Down for 20 years now.
