The English premier British Texel sale has been taking place this week in Lanark.

The sale was set alight as Sportsmans Double Diamond sold for 350,000gns (£367,500 or over €411,000), a new UK record for a sheep.

This super lamb was bred by Charlie Boden and family and secured in a three-way split for the Auldhouseburn, Procters and New View flocks.

Sired by last year’s Lanark champion Garngour Craftsman, who was purchased for 65,000gns, he is out of a homebred ewe by Plasucha Big Gun and sold with an index in the top 1% of the breed.

This price, accompanied with other high flyers at 50,000gns, 28,000gns and 17,000gns, meant that the Sportsman team sold a total of seven rams to average £71,655.
