Teagasc's Tipperary dairy-beef demonstration farm will host a major open day on Wednesday, 22 July at 11.00am.

Run as Ballyvadin Beef Farm Ltd, the farm delivered €1,620 per hectare net profit in 2025 and a €74 per hour return on labour.

The farm is being run in in partnership with Dawn Meats and Shinagh Estates Ltd.

The open day will focus on developing profitable, sustainable and labour-efficient dairy-to-beef systems. The standalone commercial unit spans 134 hectares, following a 25ha expansion in October 2025.

Head of the Teagasc livestock systems research department, Dr Padraig French, said the open day will demonstrate how dairy-beef genetics, animal health and strategic finishing can work together to improve herd performance and farm margins.

“I would encourage all cattle farmers and dairy farmers to take this opportunity to see this top-class farm business,” he said.

Technical stations

Technical stations will cover financial and labour performance, calf purchasing and genetics, animal health, calf rearing and labour-saving automation. Grassland management, water quality, finishing cattle and a Grass10 demonstration will also feature.

A spokesperson for the project said: “Tipperary beef farm offers real-world data on what it takes to build and operate a resilient dairy-beef enterprise.”
