United States – factory closure

Tyson Foods, one of the “big four” beef processors have announced the closure of its factory in Nebraska from 20th January because of scarce cattle supplies.

Türkiye – wheat production falls

The USDA reports that despite a similar area harvested, wheat production in Türkiye is forecast to fall by 15% to 16.3m tonnes due to dry weather in the growing season.

Australia – sheep numbers down

MLA reports that national sheep slaughter fell to 2m head in Q3, 20% lower than the previous quarter and 26% below Q3 2024.

South Korea – production drop

The USDA forecasts that cattle slaughter in South Korea will fall to 1.02m head in 2026, meaning a 4% drop in beef production to 340,000 tonnes.
