There was a liveliness to trade in Bandon, with a consistent supply of forward bullocks on offer on Monday.
Forward stores dominated the numbers at the annual store cattle show and sale, which saw 390 bullocks sold. A weight of 400kg or more was in demand, with bullocks between there and 500kg selling well, while 2017-born bullocks exceeding 500kg appealed to any finishers present.

Marked improvement
Hereford and Angus bullocks backboned the sale and made €350 to €600 with their weight. The top-quality lots came within a sniff of €2/kg, with most selling for between €1.80/kg and €1.95/kg.
Better quality Friesians sold for between €1.60/kg up to €1.70/kg in what was a marked improvement on recent sales. At the other end of the dairy bullock spectrum, P-grading stock sold from €1.60/kg back to closer to €1.35/kg for those with crossbred markings.

There was a few more continental bullocks on offer than usually at the west Cork venue and they made up to €850 with their weight. Prices for forward continental stores ranged from €2.18/kg up to €2.42/kg.

Cows
There was 120 cows on offer, with a good number of forward cows. There was an exceptional trade for these, with well fleshed Friesian cows solidly making over €1.40/kg. For cows in need of feeding prices went from €1.10/kg back. Prices ranged from €670 over the €/kg at the top end, with cows in poorer condition selling for €150 under the €/kg.
