Baltinglass saw solid demand from factory agents for heavy bullocks at its bullock and bull show and sale on Wednesday last, with farmer buyers also active for weanling bulls.

A small show of young bulls also on offer were scooped up by feeders and factory agents.

Topping the trade in the bullocks was a Charolais-cross born in April 2023 and weighing 825kg which went on to sell for €3,400 (€4.12/kg).

Several lots of heavier 2023-born bullocks weighing between 700kg and 800kg sold above €3,000/head or from €3.85/kg to €4.05/kg.

The majority of lighter cattle on offer were of dairy-beef origin, with plainer cattle dominating numbers.

A small entry of spring 2025-born bull weanlings weighing in the mid-200kg to low-300kg range were a slightly sticky trade, selling from €1,000/head up to €1,160/head, with some heavier bulls from 340kg to 380kg selling up to €1,300 for dairy-beef stock.

One yearling Hereford bull weighing 565kg sold for €2,200 (€3.89/kg), with a two-year-old Charolais bull weighing 680kg selling for €2,740 (€4.02/kg).

Heifers at the sale were made up of spring 2025-born Angus-cross types weighing between 265kg and 325kg, with these types selling in the main between €880/head and €1,170/head.
