Hosted by Ballyjamesduff Mart through MartEye, the recent centenary Irish Moiled Spring sale surpassed all expectations, producing a new record price for an Irish Moiled bull at public auction.
Cataloged for the online timed auction were 13 heifers and six bulls, put forward by breeders from across Ireland and Northern Ireland, with animals from Ireland sold in euros and those from Northern Ireland sold in sterling.
When the sale closed on Monday 25 May, a total of 16 lots had found new homes, with a new male record price of £3,650 (€4,212) paid for the 18-month-old bull, Burren Bertie. Owned by N and M Moilies based in Co Fermanagh, Bertie's sire is the highly classified Glassdrummond Maestro 2604, while his dam Burren Princess Pandora has won multiple championships in her career, including national breed champion in 2025. He is also a brother to Burren Royal Pandora, which claimed the supreme champion Irish Moiled at Balmoral Show recently. Bertie himself was crowned Northern Ireland calf champion in 2025 at Antrim Show and went to auction with a five-star within-breed replacement index. Acquiring this exceptionally well-bred bull for his herd in Co Tyrone was Richard Robinson.

Burren Bertie sold for the highest price of £3,650, a new breed record for a bull.
The same man also secured the highest priced female, Ballyreagh Lily 6824, also owned by N and M Moilies. Born in February 2025, Lily is a daughter of Glassdrummond Magician 2546 and Ballyreagh Lily 6765. This quality young heifer was fresh off her success at Balmoral Show, where she took overall junior champion for her breeder William Edwards. Backed up by a five-star replacement index of €68, she sold for £3,450 (€3,981).
Fermanagh breeders
It was prosperous sale for breeders from the Erne County, as Trory Amy made £3,100 (€3,577) for John McElroy from just outside Enniskillen. A daughter of Beechmount Boss, this July 2023-born heifer sold due to calve down in June 2026 to a herd in Co Sligo.
John Tevlin, manager of Ballyjamesduff Mart, was satisfied with the trade.
"Overall there was a really strong demand with buyers from all across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. We now look forward to a number of high profile sales taking place over the summer, notably the 30th anniversary Gigginstown Angus sale in August and the Lisduff Angus sale in September.
