Numbers in Nenagh on Tuesday last were back a little on previous weeks on account of the weather. Mart manager Michael Harty said that while the sale was smaller, there was still very strong demand for all types, with farmers still very active.

As the mart is in a strong dairy area, the majority of stock on offer were dairy-crosses.
According to Michael, there was plenty of farmer buyers for all types of stores and some feedlot activity for heavier feeding types. Angus and Herefords continue to be a good trade, with quality having a large effect on prices.

Many of these stores sold for up near the €1.85/kg to €2.00/kg mark. On some occasions, fancy Angus stores passed the €2.00/kg point.
Michael said that demand for continentals was very strong and this was reflected in price.

The majority of continental stores from 500kg to 600kg sold from €2.10/kg to €2.30/kg, with plenty of demand for them.
Forward Friesian bullocks were a reasonably good trade, but lighter types under 400kg were more difficult, with prices averaging near €1.40/kg.

Stronger stores made from €1.50/kg to €1.60/kg. Strong calves were a firm trade, with good Angus and Herefords selling from €250 to €300/head. Strong Friesian bulls made from €70 to €110, with exporters’ calves selling from €30 to €60/head. Commission rates are €9 to the buyer and €10 to €15 to the seller.
