There was a high standard throughout the stock available on the night, with heifers ranging from solid R grades right up to a good selection of well-muscled potential E grade animals.
Farmers’ attention to breeding was obvious when taking a look through the holding pens, with well over 300 heifers on offer.
Outside of the prize winners, a price range of €2.20/kg to €3.14/kg was the general run in the main heifer sale, with grading potential having a bigger influence on price than weight for the most part.
Heifers made from €350 up to €900 with their weight, with exceptional lots exceeding this due to strong buyer activity.
Supreme champion went to a heifer belonging to James O’Connor, Firies, Co Kerry. The October-born Belgian blue heifer weighed 500kg and sold for €1,600. Reserve champion was bred by Jonathon Kissane, Beaufort, Co Kerry, and was also a Belgian Blue. She weighed 445kg and sold for €1,770.

There were 40 calves and runners on sale, with an extremely strong trade similar to the weanlings.
There was also a small number of bull weanlings for sale on the night.
