Angus breeders were left in shock on Sunday evening, as the UK and European record price for an Angus animal was obliterated in the fifth Rawburn production sale in Scotland.

Hosted by Dowbiggin Marketing and Halls Auctions through MartEye on behalf of the Elliot family, the sale attracted unprecedented interest from buyers all across the UK and Europe.

Headlining the sale and setting a new record price for an Aberdeen Angus was Rawburn Karama A415, selling for an incredible 73,500gns (€89,338).

A daughter of the renowned Rawburn Makka Pakka and the exceptional donor cow HW Karama T532, A415 combines elite performance with style and presence, backed by one of the most proven cow families in the Rawburn herd, with her dam already producing sons to £40,000.

Described by the Elliot family as one of the best females ever offered for sale from the herd, she was knocked down to Yester Estate, East Lothian, Scotland.

Te Mania Nebo daughter

The second-highest price was 15,000gns (€18,232) for Rawburn Rachel B459, which sold to Angus House Farm, Scotland. This thick, easy-fleshing daughter of the Australian sire Te Mania Nebo is out of the influential Rachel X415, a Byergo Black Magic daughter and full sister to the AI sire Rawburn Roxburgh.

Next to sell was Rawburn Evening Star B442, which realised 9,000gns (€10,939) to Michael Poland, Isle of Wight.

Sired by Rawburn Loaded, one of the most successful sires used within the herd, this beautiful feminine heifer is backed by the great Rawburn Transformer on her maternal side.

She offered proven calving ease and growth genetics alongside strong performance credentials, carrying eight traits in the top 10% of the breed.

Mr Poland purchased six heifers in the sale averaging £7,490 (€8,670), continuing to build his Mottistone Aberdeen Angus Herd on the Isle of Wight.

Averages

Trade was strong throughout, with demand evident across the entire offering, as 36 Angus heifers averaged £7,784 (€9,011).

A total of 39 embryos averaged £866 (€1,002), with a top price of 1,700gns (€2,066) per embryo achieved for a package from HW Karama T532, the dam of the record-breaking Karama A415, and sired by Tonley Jester Eric.
