Ardee Mart held its general cattle sale on Tuesday.
There was a nice selection of store cattle and cull cows on offer, with a reduced number of suck calves reflective of the time of year.
Store heifers were in high demand, with the majority of Aberdeen Angus- and Hereford-cross heifers making between €3.60/kg and €3.80/kg.
A February 2023-born Aberdeen Angus-cross heifer weighing 540kg sold for €2,040 (€3.78/kg).
Fancier continental-type heifers sold well, with the majority making close to €4/kg. A February 2023-born Limousin-cross heifer weighing 492kg sold for €1,970 (€4.00/kg).

Dry cows were in strong demand from factory buyers, with a top price of €3,110 being paid for a May 2018-born Limousin cull cow weighing 810kg.
The number of suck calves on offer was small, reflective of the time of year.
