On Saturday, Elphin Agricultural Show hosted its 47th show, where a record number of cattle entries saw three rings in full flow from 11 in the morning.

Playing host to a number of all-Irelands and calf finals, there was a tremendous display of quality cattle at the show.

Crowned overall inter-breed champion of the show was Kerins Vickemi for Bernard Kerins from Sligo.

This was a touching moment for the Kerins family, having won the 2025 overall championship at the same venue with Kerins Riokmi, the mother of this year’s champion.

After deliberation from the judges, Castlebrock Victoria was crowned the reserve inter-breed champion after being tapped forward as Limousin champion earlier in the day.

Charolais

The show saw one of the best displays of Charolais cattle seen this year, playing host to this year's Midland and Western Club calf finals.

Michael McKiernan from Leitrim had a good day in the office, with his bull Gallaway Bobby winning the overall club calf championship and going on to win the all-Ireland baby male baby calf championship later in the day.

Claiming the overall Charolais champion of the show was Cleavy A1 for Paudge and Brian Maguire.

This heifer is now on a roll, having won seven breed championships this year. Cleavy A1 was also tapped out the Midland and Western club reserve calf champion earlier in the day.

Reserve Charolais champion of the day went to Lisnageeragh Apple Jack, a September 2025-born bull from the stable of Des Joyce, Williamstown.

The show also played host to the calf finals from the Northwest Limousin Club.

Picking up the honours here was the Dreaper family. Their heifer Burnrower Alicante was tapped forward as the overall calf champion.

Alicante went on to be tapped forward as the reserve Limousin champion of the show.

The reserve champion calf went to the Hester family from Castlerea for their bull Meelickaduff Agri Spec.

Commercial section

Billy Dunne had the tough task of deciding the commercial classes on the day.

He found his overall champion in Liam and Katie Dolan's heifer, with the reserve champion going to Pauric Heraghty.

The show played host to a number of all-Irelands, with the Stevenson family from Donegal winning the all-Ireland beef heifer title.

In the calf section, the all-Ireland commercial heifer calf champion went to Charlene Nohilly, with BSF Commercials winning the all-Ireland commercial male calf champion.

Gerry Neenan had a good day out, picking up the Simmental champion with his heifer Fearna Tilly under judge Martin Regan.

Following in reserve was BallyK Top Notch P, shown by Marie Walsh, Athlone.

The Shorthorn section is growing at the show every year and this year provided a spectacle you’d travel the country to see.

Clinching the honours of the Shorthorn champion was the Lally family from Manulla, Co Mayo, with their September-born bull Rinnahulty Tadgh.

Local men Anthony and Arron Dockery picked up the honours of the reserve Shorthorn champion.

The Shorthorn breed excelled in the inter-breed group of three animals, as local exhibitors the Flanaghan family won first with their three Shorthorn heifers.
