A busy bank holiday sale at Manorhamilton Mart saw a large entry of weanlings through the ring, with farmers, exporters and online bidders all active around the ring.

Good-quality cattle met excellent demand throughout the sale, with Northern Ireland buyers driving demand for quality heifer weanlings.

Exporters provided strong competition for bull weanlings.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, mart spokesperson Ava Moffitt said: “We are pleased with the trade on the day. There was excellent buyer demand, with good-quality cattle proving easy to sell.

"Northern buyers were especially active for quality heifer weanlings, while exporters provided strong competition for 350kg to 450kg bull weanlings.”

The standout price for the day was a Belgian Blue-cross heifer born in August 2025 that sold for €5,800 (€12.66/kg), while another Belgian Blue-cross heifer reached €4,900.

A third made €4,650, with all three being bought by northern buyers.

Other top prices included €3,000 for a 440kg Limousin-cross. Bull weanlings topped at €2,360 for a 390kg Limousin-cross, while dry cows sold to a top call of €2,900 for an 805kg Belgian Blue-cross.
