Milk intake in April, May and June of 2026 was down 2.8% when compared with the same period in 2025, Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures have shown.

However, milk intake was up 5% when compared with the same time period of 2024.

Quarterly butter production increased by 3,500t, from 101,500t in the second quarter last year 2025 to 105,000t in 2026.

Domestic milk intake by processors and co-ops in June was down 3.2% on the 2025 figure, but up 1.4% on the same month in 2024, the CSO revealed.

For the eighth consecutive month, fat content was higher than last year’s figure at 4.14%, compared with 4.06% in 2025.

Protein content also rose, but to a lesser degree, from 3.45% in June 2025 to 3.50% in June 2026.

Butter production fell slightly in June 2026 compared with the same period last year, as did skimmed milk powder.
