The Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) has released the bulls most commonly used on Irish dairy farms so far this year, with the results reflecting strong farmer demand for high-performing dairy genetics.
The top 10 bulls are all Friesians.
Parkduv Magical ranks as the most used dairy sire in 2026, with 16,122 serves recorded for the year to date. The Friesian bull has an economic breeding index (EBI) of €242 and a calving value of €43. At €108, he has the highest milk value in the top 10 bulls.
With 13,182 serves, Johnswell Rory is the second-most popular dairy bull used so far this year. With an EBI value of €221 and a milk value of €89, this bull tops the charts in terms of beef value with a figure of €31.
Following close behind at 13,156 serves, Tuohy Historic takes third place with an EBI of €223, milk value of €85 and a fertility value of €81.
Tinnakill Grandslam is the fourth-most common bull used in dairy herds so far, with 12,056 AI straws used. This bull has an EBI of €229, milk value of €99 and fertility value of €36.
Number five on the list is Mortalstown Matisse with 12,012 serves so far and with an EBI of €226, milk value of €106 and a fertility value of €74.
With an EBI of €194, Ballydehob Ringo is sixth on the list at the moment with 11,457 serves. This bull has a milk value of €73 and a fertility value of €63.
Highest EBI
The highest EBI and fertility values in the top 10 is Bunclody Fantasy, with an EBI value of €267 and fertility value of €139, this bull is the seventh-most commonly used to date, with 10,994 serves so far.
Also with 10,994 serves, Kilvurra Grassleaf SRM is eighth on the list, with an EBI of €265, milk value of €101 and fertility value of €92.
Cloonigney Pinatubo is the ninth-most commonly used bull this year with 10,584 serves, an EBI of €197, milk value of €83 and a fertility value of €34.
Tenth on the list is Killavalla Linesman with 10,345 serves, an EBI of €209, milk value of €100 and a fertility value of €75.
