Following last year’s launch of the high-lift JCB 542-100 Loadall telescopic handler, JCB has unveiled the new 542-70 and 555-70 models. Both offer a 7m reach and lift capacities of 4.6t and 5.5t.

At the launch, John Smith, JCB agricultural managing director, said JCB see continued growth in the European telehandler market, which hasn’t matured. It believes the tractor and front-loader ratio will keep shifting in favour of ag telehandlers. The global market exceeded 20,000 units in 2023, valued at $2.45bn.

Both new Loadalls feature redesigned chassis and booms to handle increased loads without changing overall dimensions.

The 546-70 offers a 400kg lift increase over the 542-70 and 10% more bucket tear-out force. The 555-70 adds 24% more lift capacity, with a flipped, 25% thicker boom and extra rear counterweights. Its double compensator ram system is now in front of the main boom pivot, boosting tear-out force by over 30% versus the 542-70.

Both models come in three spec packs: Agri Super (130hp), Agri Xtra (150hp) and Agri Pro (173hp). All feature JCB’s 160l/min Smart Hydraulic system and 40km/h DualTech VT transmission, while Agri Pro versions get the faster 50km/h variant.

Engine and transmission

The DualTech VT transmission starts with hydrostatic drive, switching to powershift at higher speeds. Agri Super models use the a 130hp, 550Nm 4.8l DieselMAX engine. Agri Xtra specification adds a further 20hp and maximum torque of 600Nm, plus air conditioning, LED lights, limited-slip front axle diff, boom dust covers, and centralised greasing. Both use the 40km/h transmission. Agri Pro boosts power to 173hp and 690Nm, use a 50km/h DualTech VT transmission.

Other new standard features include a reverse camera and swivel mudguards. A blindside camera remains optional. JCB’s new IntelliAssist and IntelliWeigh suite of automated boom functions and load weighing system are optionally available along with Sway Control.

This levelling system using a double-acting cylinder between chassis and front axle. Operators can adjust the Loadall vertically on side slopes for stability. Air trailer brakes are optional.

The new boom on the 555-70 is 25% thicker and has a more flush looking appearance.

The 555-70 model features larger rear counterweights.

The Sway Control system will be offered as an option.
