Massey Ferguson has expanded its six-cylinder tractor lineup with the arrival of six new 7S ‘Mark 2’ models.
Spanning from 170hp to 245hp, the newcomers feature a host of significant updates, including AGCO Power’s latest-generation Core75 7.5l six-cylinder engine, the larger 8S and 9S cab platform, a new front axle and new tyre configurations. They also feature updated styling and a new Datatronic 6 12in touchscreen terminal, with a redesigned user interface.
The new 7S Mark 2 series effectively fills the gap left by the earlier generation 215-255hp long-wheelbase MF 7000 and 7700S tractors – a hugely sucessful generation for the French manufacturer across western European markets, such as Ireland and the UK. These models were phased out in 2021, following the introduction of the 8S platform.

At the time, the shorter-wheelbase 7700S evolved into the 7S range, which topped out at 220hp, leaving many traditional 7700S long-wheelbase customers either having to move up to the larger chassis 8S or back to the short wheelbase 7S.
Massey did introduce lower-horsepower 8S models in an effort to bridge the gap from the previous long wheelbase 7700S. However, buying trends continue to show an increased move towards compact, high horsepower tractors, offering higher power-to-weight ratios with the flexibility of being ballasted up as opposed to larger, lower horsepower tractors.
To prevent too much crossover within its portfolio with the arrival of the 7S Mark 2, Massey has now discontinued the smallest 205hp 8S.205. The 7S Mark 2 lineup consists of the 7S.170, 7S.185, 7S.200, 7S.215, 7S.230 and 7S.245, with each model delivering the maximum horsepower displayed on the bonnet. While there is overlap at the top end of the 7S range and the lower end of the Mark 2 lineup, Massey believes that both ranges appeal to different customers.

New model lineup
With the six newcomers representing much more than a simple extension to the existing range, Massey Ferguson has designated the tractors as Mark 2 models.
The numbering strategy pays tribute to historic MF tractors, such as the MF 65 Mark I, II and III, and is expected to be used across future product updates.
Beyond the headline changes, the Mark 2 tractors are built on a 2.95m wheelbase, closer in size to the former long-wheelbase 7700S tractors, which measured 3m between the axles. For comparison, the short wheelbase 7S models offer a 2.88m wheelbase, while the 8S measures 3.05m.
A new Dana 750 front axle delivers a tight 5.3m turning radius, while supporting a maximum gross vehicle weight of 14t across the range. Front axle suspension has also been revised, offering 140mm of travel. One noticeable change as part of the updated axle is the relocation of the suspension cylinders behind the axle rather than ahead of it.

Larger rear tyre options, measuring up to 2m in diameter, are now available. According to Massey Ferguson, BKT has developed two Agrimax V-Flecto tyres specifically for the new models. Available in VF 650/70 R42 and VF 710/60 R44 sizes, they are paired with VF 600/65 R30 front tyres to maximise traction, increase the contact patch and reduce soil compaction.
Engine: The arrival of the Core75
While existing 7S and 8S tractors use AGCO Power’s proven 6.6l and 7.4l engines, the new Mark 2 models move to the manufacturer’s latest Core75 platform.
The 7.5l six-cylinder engine first appeared in Fendt’s 700 Vario Gen7 range in 2022 and now finds its way into the Massey Ferguson lineup. Unlike the Fendt, which combines a structural oil sump with chassis rails, the 7S Mark 2 retains a fully structural sump design.
Massey Ferguson says this approach, together with the redesigned front axle and sculpted sump, helps achieve the tight turning circle.
Maximum power is available across a broad engine speed range, while peak torque remains consistent between 800rpm and 1,500rpm. According to Massey Ferguson, the engine’s torque characteristics remove the need for Engine Power Management (EPM), while early testing has shown improved fuel efficiency compared with the previous generation.

The Core75 engine uses a single turbocharger and, according to AGCO Power, contains 25% fewer components than its predecessor. Stage V emissions compliance is achieved without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), although this results in higher AdBlue consumption.
To compensate, AdBlue capacity has increased by 88% to 56.5l, while diesel tank capacity has grown by 105l to 410l.
Dyna-VT for all
Despite ongoing speculation about a future powershift option, all 7S Mark 2 models will offered exclusively with the proven two-range Dyna-VT (ML180) continuously variable transmission for the foreseeable future.
Despite the transmission going largely unchanged in terms of functionality, Massey has reworked it to achieve a 57km/h maximum speed. Other updates include a new ParkLock system, which automatically engages via the Power Control shuttle lever, alongside a standard emergency braking function.
A four-speed PTO and closed-centre load-sensing hydraulic pump come standard. However, 110l, 150l or 190l/min outputs can be optioned.

New cab
The new 7S Mark 2 tractors feature a redesigned version of the 8S cab that is likely to be welcomed by many existing 7S users. While visually similar to the 8S cab, Massey Ferguson says that the 7S Mark 2 cab incorporates more modern electrical architecture to support its latest and future smart farming technologies.
The cab retains its impressive 3.4m³ interior volume and 6.6m² glass area, ensuring excellent all-round visibility. Love it or loathe it from a visual aspect, the Protect-U design remains, with a 15cm gap which physically separates the cab from the engine.

As before, the idea here is to reduce noise, vibration and heat transfer while also allowing the front wiper to fully clean the sloping windscreen. A relocated side wiper is said to offer improved window coverage.
Datatronic 6
A key highlight is the arrival of the new Datatronic 6 (sixth generation) terminal. The 12in touchscreen boasts topline figures, which include a screen that is 25% larger, 90% faster and 100% capacitive.
The redesigned user interface retains a familiar carousel layout, but offers significantly greater functionality and customisation, with up to 16 tiles and the traditional MF homepage. New features within include Tractor Implement Management (TIM), Autoturn, Tramline control and new Wayline types along with a new Over The Air feature unlock and machine updates. LED lighting is standard across the range, though customers can choose from four lighting packages. At the highest specification level, tractors can be equipped with up to 27 LED work lights, including eight mounted on the bonnet and 19 on the cab.
The new system can display feeds from up to four cameras simultaneously, including front and rear cameras along with additional units mounted on implements or trailers. Operators will also benefit from a new side-mounted wiper, which cleans up to 72% of the side window area.

Category 4 cab filtration is available as an option, offering enhanced protection for sprayer operators and those working in challenging environments. Other options include a premium audio package featuring larger speakers and a subwoofer-style speaker integrated into the windscreen.
For customers seeking additional convenience, the optional Professional package adds an external toolbox, inspection light, compressed-air outlet and air gun, alongside further customisation options available through MF By You. Remote locking via the key fob also deactivates the start/stop button for additional security.
New PTx FarmEngage
The 7S Mark 2 range will be the first Massey Ferguson tractors supplied ex-factory with PTx FarmEngage, a package that until now has primarily been offered as a retrofit solution.
Developed by PTx Trimble, the precision farming business formed through the partnership between AGCO and Trimble, FarmEngage is designed to connect farmers, machines and farm data within a single digital ecosystem.
Compatible with mixed fleets and machinery from different manufacturers, the system enables the wireless transfer of machine and agronomic data through the tractor’s integrated telemetry platform. This allows users to monitor machine performance, field activity and operational efficiency in real time. In addition, tractor, implement, field, crop and task management data can be transferred either via USB or through the cloud using the system’s built-in Connectivity Centre, helping to streamline record keeping and machine management across the farm.
Our verdict
With production set to ramp up ahead of first deliveries in spring 2027, the 7S Mark 2 will be welcomed by both new and existing Massey Ferguson customers.
Despite the time that has passed since the former 7700 and 7700S long wheelbase tractors were phased out, the new 7S Mark 2 marks a new era for Massey Ferguson on many fronts, including its precision farming advances with PTx.
Having spent time operating the new tractors in the field, we came away impressed. The adoption of the 8S cab works well on the 7S platform, despite some thinking it wouldn’t. In fact it arguably looks better. The move to AGCO Power’s latest engine technology is a positive one and the continued absence of an EGR remains welcome. However, it would appear that the new engine has quite a thirst for AdBlue based on its 56.5l tank size and the figures quoted by the product specialists.
The new 12in Datatronic 6 terminal is also a welcome addition, offering significantly more functionality and customisation, although it does and will require some familiarisation. Having driven both Efficient and Exclusive specifications, it is clear that each has a defined place in the lineup.
In particular, the option of pairing the Dyna-VT transmission with the simplified Efficient-spec armrest, complete with two mechanical and two electronic spool valves, is likely to appeal to customers seeking a CVT without the complexity and cost associated with a fully specified premium tractor.
Overall, the 7S Mark 2 feels less like an update and more like the long-awaited successor to the long-wheelbase 7700S tractors. For many customers, that alone could make it one of Massey Ferguson’s most important launches in recent years.
