Lemken is scaling back its investment in mechanical weeding equipment following difficult market conditions and slower than expected regulatory changes in Europe which in turn has reduced the demand for non-chemical solutions.
Following its acquisition of the Steketee brand in 2018, and the subsequent rebranding years later, Lemken has now decided to scale back and centralise the production of mechanical hoeing machines and precision harrows.
It is believed that operations will soon cease at its new Dutch manufacturing facility in Dinteloord, where production began in 2024 following a $20 million investment.
The decision has been made in an effort to consolidate and centralise production which will now be moved to the brands headquarters in Alpen, Germany. The reason behind the move is to consolidate and allegedly sell the modern production facility in Dinteloord, Netherlands. However, it is believed that product development will remain based in the Netherlands.
