McConnel has introduced its telescopic variable forward-reach technology – known as the Tele-VFR – as an option to its latest 77-Series machines. Previously reserved for its flagship models only, this is the first time that the forward-reach system is available on the firm’s mid-range machines.

The Tele-VFR option is designed to position the cutting head further forward, improve operator visibility and extend reach around obstacles. In confined lanes or restricted environments, the arm can also be positioned behind the tractor wheel for close-in cutting, providing flexibility where space is limited.

The new Tele-VFR armset has been completely redesigned to suit 77-Series machines. It uses a phased ram system to maintain the correct flailhead position as the arm is moved forward and back. This replaces the mechanical parallelogram system used on larger machines, helping to reduce weight.

The flailhead angling ram has also been repositioned to improve the overall arm profile and support greater manoeuvrability and overall geometry.

The 77-Series features larger-diameter pivot pins, providing a 48% increase in bush contact area for improved durability, alongside McConnel’s in-house designed 70hp hydraulic system as standard. Customers can also specify an optional 85hp hydraulic system for increased power and flow.

Additional features include a 180-litre hydraulic tank, high-capacity oil cooler, electric rotor control, soft-start rotor engagement, LED road lighting, redesigned hydraulic tank and a two-piece rear guard for improved service access. An integrated debris blower, mounted within the rear guard, is also available.
