At an IFA pre-budget briefing for Oireachtas members last week, IFA representatives met with TDs and senators from around the country to press for budget measures to support farm incomes and improve competitiveness. The IFA is calling for further low-cost bank financing to farmers, increased farm scheme funding, equalising of the earned income and PAYE tax credits and has sought the Government to pursue direct support at EU level for farm level measures that counteract the sterling related price drops.

IFA president Joe Healy said: “Delivery on the IFA’s budget proposals will contribute to tackling low farm incomes, underpinning the contribution of the farming and agri-food sector to the economy, including the Foodwise 2025 targets, and supporting economic activity in rural communities”
