Organic day
IFA’s organic project team hosted an organic producer day at Marlay House, Rathfarnham, Co Dublin on 12 October. The event was part of Fáilte Ireland’s Taste the Island campaign. Talks from organic producers and industry representatives and exhibitions were held throughout the day. The ICA cookery school, An Grianán, held cookery demonstrations using produce grown by farmers.
Dairy meetings
The IFA is holding four regional dairy farmer meetings, as follows.
The meetings will highlight supports and solutions to help farmers manage and optimise the value of their dairy calves. They will also consider the 2020 outlook for milk prices.
Kerry greenway
IFA national environment chair Thomas Cooney has called on Kerry County Council to pull back from its divisive and heavy-handed approach to the development of a proposed cycle track and recreational route in south Kerry. Last week, the IFA addressed the oral hearing into the Kerry Greenway.
The IFA made the point to the hearing that it supports the development of recreational routes and recognises the role they play in promoting agri-tourism and economic activity in rural areas.
However, many farmers affected by Kerry County Council’s proposal feel misled and unheard.
