The prices paid for dairy commodities in Europe continues to edge up, with butter rising by €50/t at the Dutch Dairy Board auction on Wednesday, taking it to €4,000/t.

It is the highest price paid for butter since April 2026, although still well short of the €6,820/t from this time last year.

Whole milk powder was also up, rising €90/t to €3,610/t, which is its highest price since October 2025, while skim milk powder was up €70/t to reach a four-year high of €3,030/t.

The price rises are mainly being driven by tighter supplies on the back of summer drought, although sources maintain that further cuts in production are needed to really stimulate the market.

The Islandmagee farm run by Caryn Webster will host a UK Dairy Carbon Network event on Thursday 3 September, starting at 11am.

It is the third on-farm carbon network event to take place in NI this year, with the focus of the farm walk on how breeding decisions can improve genetic gain, herd longevity and efficiency.

Caryn milks 60 Holstein cows on 116 acres in an autumn calving system, yielding 7,500l on 2t of concentrate per cow.

The herd typically grazes from March to October.

The dairy carbon network is working with over 50 dairy farms across the UK to put practical solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions into action.
