Demand was very firm across all the rings at Clogher Mart in Co Tyrone last Saturday 10 October with another large show of 1,326 cattle on offer.

Over 300 cattle were sold through the bullock ring, with heavy animals over 600kg selling to a top of £3,160 paid for an 830kg Limousin at 381p/kg.

Other leading prices saw a 740kg Charolais selling for £2,830 (382p/kg) and a 735kg Limousin at £2,790 (380p/kg). A number of other lots sold for prices over 350p/kg.

Among the forward stores on offer, top-quality continental-bred cattle made prices of over 380p/kg, including a 570kg Charolais at £2,710 (475p/kg) and a 570kg Limousin at £2,450 (430p/kg).

Some exceptional prices were also paid for heavy heifers, with a 590kg Limousin realising £2,980 (505p/kg) and 460p/kg paid for a 500kg Limousin at £2,300.

The leading prices for beef cull cows and once-bred heifers included a 710kg Limousin at £2,870 (410p/kg) and an 800kg Limousin at £3,184 (398p/kg). In general, good-quality beef bred cows sold from 330 to 342p/kg, with second quality from 294 to 322p/kg. Fleshed Friesian cows sold to £1,910 for a 770kg cow at 248p/kg.

Plainer dairy cows made prices from 206 to 224p/kg, with poorer cows from 166 to 196p/kg

Suckler outfits sold to £3,180 and £3,000, with a selection of in-calf heifers selling to top prices of £3,760 and £3,520.
