The Mercury Matrons Aberdeen Angus Sale is taking place on irishaberdeenangus.marteye.ie over the August bank holiday.

Owned and run by Shane and John Murphy in Co Cork, the herd was crowned all-Ireland champion medium herd in the IAA herds competition in 2025. Offered in the sale is every female born before 1 January 2023, including nearly all of the females that helped secure this prestigious title.

According to Shane: “These females carry some of the strongest pedigrees ever brought to market. Every female catalogued has already proven her worth within the Mercury herd.

“Whether through success in the sales ring, achievements in the show ring, or by producing high-demand progeny which excel in commercial environments, these females have consistently delivered results.

“These females represent generations of performance, productivity and market appeal – offering buyers the opportunity to invest in genetics that are already making an impact. The sale gives access to some of the breeds most recognised cow families, not just in Ireland but worldwide, including Evening Tinge, Ellen Erica, Kim, Fleur, Flora and Jody.”

The Mercury herd has had a decorated career in recent years, selling Mercury Red Evo Z910 for a record breaking €27,800 in 2024. The herd also secured the supreme IAA all-Ireland championship in 2022 with Mercury Special Tinge, who will be offered in the sale along with the dam of Red Evo.

In 2021, the herd bred the €13,200 European record-priced red Angus Mercury Red Unbeatable Kim. A maternal sister to this record breaker will also be offered.

Many females sell scanned in-calf to Luddenmore Victorious, supreme champion at the IAA calf show in 2023.

Across all sale lots the average DBI ranks in the top 10% nationally while the average beef sub index and carcase weight rank in the top 5%. However, there are lots that rank in the top 1% for many sub-indexes.

This is a timed auction, with lots beginning to close at 8 pm on Monday 3 August. The Mercury herd is a high-health-status herd and is a C10 herd for TB, with no outbreak since its establishment.
