The annual Kells Suffolk female sale held at Kells Farm, Co Meath, on Saturday 24 October showcased the Duffy family’s Suffolk flock, offering fellow breeders a chance to purchase some of Ireland’s top Suffolk genetics.
Thirty years of genetic optimisation has led to a flock with greatly sought-after traits which was highlighted on Saturday when, despite stormy weather conditions, the sale saw a great turnout of purchasers ringside as well as online via MartEye.
The sale had a clearance rate of 100%, with a special entry from Molloy’s Suffolks also selling all lots consigned.
In-lamb gimmers sired by Kells T-Rex (2024 sire of the year) were in particular demand, with lots selling from €1,500 to a top of €2,200.
Many lots were purchased by European bidders.
Ewe lambs were also in considerable demand, selling to a top of €1,200.
John Molloy’s entries topped €1,500 twice, selling all eight lots presented to commendable prices.
Following the sale, Eamonn Duffy stated: “We would like to give a hearty thanks to all our buyers and underbidders and wish you all the best of luck with your purchases.”
He also expressed thanks to everyone who helped to make the sale a success.
