Following on from its blistering premier sale in Blessington just a few weeks ago, the Irish Texel Sheep Society is looking ahead to its second premier in Carnaross Mart, which has attracted a record entry of over 100 rams and 20 females.

The strength of this year’s entry reflects the continued demand from commercial farmers for Texel rams. Following the harsh spring experienced last year, there has been increased interest in hardy, fit and active rams, capable of thriving in challenging conditions.

The sale will feature a strong selection of hogget rams and ram lambs, with a range of sheep to suit commercial farmers’ budgets and production systems. All rams will be fit and active and ready for work. A select number of females will also be offered, representing some of the leading genetics in the breed. The female section will include a small number of shearling ewes and ewe lambs, providing an opportunity for breeders to add quality genetics to their flocks for breeding and showing next year.

The show will commence at 5pm on Friday 4 September, under the watchful eye of judge Noel P Walsh from Co Waterford. This will be followed by the sale at 7pm, kicking off with the female section followed by the ram sale.
