A Limousin bull bred by Thomas F Beirne, Drumbeera, Gorvagh , Mohill, achieved the top price at the Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society continental show and sale in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday last. Drumbeera Legacy 2, born April 2016 and sired by Bavardage, was secured at €4,250.

The reserve champion Charolais bull Ballymakea McCoy, sired by Enfield Plexus and bred by Peter MacNamara, Mullagh, Co Clare, achieved the top Charolais bull price of €4,000.

The champion of the show Rathraclann McGregor, a son of Dovea AI bull Crossmolina Euro and bred by Liam Mahon Jnr, Castlerea, sold for €2,700.

Other top prices included:

  • €3,600 for Ballyhiprunner Martin, a son of Lisnagre Elite and bred by Michael J Ball, Louisburgh, Co Mayo.
  • €3,500 for Knockminna Miles 2, a son of Lisnagre Hansome and exhibited by Grainne Mullooly, Cloonfree, Strokestown.
  • €3,350 for Sunnaconnor Liam, a Pirate son exhibited by Andy McGovern, Cloone.

    • Kathleen Crowe, Carrick-on-Shannon, achieved €3,000 for both her Charolais bulls Clogher Light, sired by Cavelands Fenian, and Clogher Mark, sired by Derryolam Impeccable .

    The day saw 50% of the Charolais bulls present sell at an average of €2,750, up from €2,700 on last year’s sale with a similar clearance. On the Limousin side, four of the five Limousin bulls sold at the same average of €2,750, helped greatly by the top seller.
