A blog entitled Ten Commandments for a Farmer’s Wife proved popular on our website this week. The tongue-in-cheek article clearly struck a chord, with over 1,500 shares on Facebook.

The commandments include: “Thou shalt learn to keep farm records”, “Thou shalt cook meals that can be served 30 minutes early OR two hours late” and “Thou shalt thrill at the sights of a new tractor and the birth of a new lamb”.

Some further suggestions from our Facebook followers included: “Thou shalt be late for everything – except the ploughing”, “Thou shalt know which black bullock to stop and which to leave off, even when they are all black”, and “Thou shalt never throw out copies of the Irish Farmers Journal”.

Check out the article on www.farmersjournal.ie/country-living and add your own ideas for the list.

Thanks to Con and Elsa Enright from Limerick who came across the commandments while visiting farms in Canada.
