Following last week’s reshuffle of the British government’s front bench, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), uniquely will be represented by a five-strong, all-woman, team.

Emma Reynolds is the new DEFRA secretary, while Dame Angela Eagle is the minister of state, while Emma Hardy, Mary Creagh and House of Lords member Baroness Haymen of Ullock are all parliamentary under-secretaries.

Will the famous five be able to mend bridges with farmers, currently furious at the slashing of family farm transfer tax reliefs?

They’ll have to persuade Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves that a U-turn in policy will be needed for that methinks.
