DEAR EDITOR
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is remarkably silent on the subject of Mercosur.
In fairness, the FSAI was responsible for uncovering the Europe-wide horse meat scandal of 2013.
Traceability measures are now in place which safeguard the quality of Irish meat products.
If it goes ahead, Mercosur will present many new challenges in this regard.
Will FSAI be beefed up accordingly?
